    Known as one of the best and biggest universities in all of Asia, Silliman University, in Negros Oriental, Dumaguete City, has earned the title of being the "Center of Excellence" in the country. Established in 1901 by Protestant missionaries of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, it is the first American and Protestant "founded institution" of higher learning in the Philippines and the oldest American University in Asia. Silliman University, a private research university in the southern Philippines, is home to over 10,000 students - around 300 are international students from 53 countries across the globe.
